Burn Awareness Week

February 4th - 10th, 2024

National Burn Awareness Week was held February 4th - 10th which is a time set aside for organizations and educators to unite in sharing a common burn and fire awareness prevention message.

The Manitoba government, Office of the Fire Commissioner, Manitoba Firefighters' Burn Fund and the Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs partnered once again and held a Poster Contest for kids Grade 5-8 and encouraged them to submit their original artwork reflecting any fire and burn awareness drawing for a chance to win a GRAND PRIZE!

The Burn Awareness Week poster contest began in 2009, and this year we received 478 posters, from 31 schools across the province! That is the highest amount ever.

The deadline has passed, and judging has taken place. Posters were judged based on age-appropriate skill, message and content, and one winner per grade level was chosen and has won a Grand Prize valued at $200.00; educational safety materials for their classmates and a $200 cheque direct from the Firefighters' Burn Fund for their teacher to use on materials in their classroom. Each winner will be presented with a recognition certificate to acknowledge their contribution to burn and fire safety awareness education.

Judges included representatives from the Office of the Fire Commissioner, Manitoba Firefighters' Burn Fund, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services, Manitoba Fire Service and the Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs.

Winners posters will be displayed on the Office of the Fire Commissioner website to celebrate their win and show off their incredible artwork. Posters that are submitted and may not have won may be used in other public educational promotional material where appropriate.

Congratulations to the following winners:
